The Batman series centered on Arkham Asylum has reportedly been canceled by HBO. Initially presented as a continuation of the film The Batman of Matt Reevesthe show was originally going to focus on Gotham’s corrupt police force before it was restructured.

In 2022, Antonio Campos signed on as showrunner while Reeves told fans the series had evolved to focus on the world of Arkham Asylum, the place that houses Batman’s rogues gallery after they were defeated by the Dark Knight.


Reeves went on to describe it as a continuation of 2022’s The Batman and hinted that it could provide origin stories for many of Gotham’s villains. “It’s almost like he’s leaning into the idea of [la] horror movie or the haunted house that is Arkham,” he added.
After it was announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran would take over the DC universe and reboot most of it, Gunn confirmed that the series was still in development. However, he did say that the series would now be set in the main DC universe, rather than the standalone DC Elseworlds universe that Robert Pattinson’s Batman inhabits.
However, a new report from Variety says that HBO and Max will no longer be moving forward with the Arkham Asylum show. However, a person with knowledge of the situation said that a different version of the idea could be developed down the road.
The continuity of The Batman universe
A spin-off of The Batman centered on the Penguin. Colin Farrell will air this September on Max, while The Batman – Part 2 It will now be released in 2026 after being delayed from 2025.
