It must have been a difficult walk for Hilaria Baldwin (40) when she accompanied her husband, actor Alec Baldwin (66), to court on July 9. His current trial for negligent homicide began in New Mexico after the fatal shooting of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins during the filming of the western “Rust”. The couple arrived at the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe together with lawyers Alex Spiro and Luke Nikas.
The first part of the program was the selection of the jury in the criminal trial. According to recordings obtained by the New York Post, Hilaria appeared at the courthouse with her youngest of seven children. The entourage arrived in several cars. The Baldwins – he in an anthracite suit, she in a beige two-piece – did not comment to the waiting journalists. The 66-year-old faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted.
On Monday, Alec Baldwin and his lawyer unexpectedly appeared at a hearing before the actual trial began. A motion by the prosecution was apparently rejected and Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer ruled that Baldwin’s role as producer on “Rust” was not relevant to the trial, which presumably diminishes his responsibility for the tragic accident on set. The court is also said to have ruled that the actor’s general behavior during filming should not be included in the trial. The prosecution claimed that Baldwin ignored other safety precautions on the set in Montana.
There has already been a conviction
In October 2021, 42-year-old Ukrainian camerawoman Halyna Hutchins was fatally injured on the set of the film “Rust” by a bullet from a gun held by Baldwin. The gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was hired for the filming, has already been found guilty of negligent homicide and sentenced to 18 months in prison. Why the gun was loaded with live ammunition is still unclear. The first hearings are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 10.
Hilaria Baldwin and Alec Baldwin have been married since 2012. The couple has seven children aged between 22 months and ten years.
