The cancellation of her talk show in 2022 was a hard blow for Ellen DeGeneres. Now she has announced the end of her career.
“Ellen’s Last Stand…Up Tour” is the title of her current stand-up comedy tour and it seems to be the program. Fans have been speculating for some time whether this name could mean that the popular American comedienne and presenter might withdraw from the public eye – and they were right.
At an event at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, California, DeGeneres made it clear. “This is the last time you’ll see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done,” the 66-year-old explained, announcing her departure from the entertainment industry.
Ellen DeGeneres and the celebrities – she met almost all
For 19 years, from 2003 to 2022, Ellen DeGeneres was the host and presenter of the “Ellen DeGeneres Show”. A talk show that can look back on 19 seasons and in whose chair countless high-profile celebrities have sat. The end of the show, however, was anything but happy. The background to this was reports of grievances in the production environment. Employees of the show accused senior producers of racism, sexual misconduct and intimidation. After internal investigations, three producers left the show.
DeGeneres also commented on the allegations at the time and admitted that she may have been too demanding and impatient as a boss. However, she emphasized that it was never her intention to harm others.
Her final work before retirement will be a Netflix special. During her current comedy tour, she will be accompanied by a camera team. The special is scheduled to air in 2025. After that, the talk show host will disappear from the screens. In addition to memories of impressive conversations and TV moments, Ellen DeGeneres hopes that as a gay woman who has struggled with prejudice in the industry for decades, she has encouraged people to stay true to themselves along the way.
