Probably the biggest pop star in the world is coming to the Ruhr area. In Gelsenkirchen, Taylor Swift will receive a stone on the “Walk of Fame” – an honor actually reserved for citizens of the city.
Schalke legend Rudi Assauer, author Ilse Kibgis – and now pop star Taylor Swift: Gelsenkirchen is honoring the US singer with a stone on the city’s “Walk of Fame”. Before the three concerts that Swift will play in the Ruhr area city from Wednesday to Friday, the base plate was unveiled by Mayor Karin Welge.
“We said we’re going to have three great ‘Swiftie’ days here in Gelsenkirchen and she should have a place here for the three days,” said Welge. “Because one thing she is proven to be: she is famous.” Some “Swifties” also came to the unveiling.
The “Walk of Fame” in the Buer district is actually reserved for personalities from the city. Gelsenkirchen makes an exception for megastar Swift. The stone will not remain permanently, however, but will be removed after the concerts of her “Eras Tour”.
Many attractions around Swift
The floor slab in honor of Swift is one of many attractions with which Gelsenkirchen welcomes the singer’s fans to the city: When the first “Swifties” arrive at the train station on Wednesday, they will be greeted by cheerleaders. In addition to the “Walk of Fame”, there will be other places in the city center where fans can take photos – for example at a 90 square meter 3D image. The centerpiece of the events is the open-air party “Taylor Town” with karaoke, stage entertainment and a tattoo stand.
Gelsenkirchen is expecting around 200,000 fans for the three concerts – that’s almost four fifths of the population. Further German shows will take place afterwards in Hamburg and Munich.
