Olaf Scholz: He just wants to relax on vacation

Even a chancellor has to take a vacation sometimes. In an interview, Olaf Scholz revealed what plans he has for his summer break.

Olaf Scholz (66) doesn’t need a big program for his summer vacation this year. He didn’t tell ARD where exactly he was going – but at least he gave an insight into his plans for his vacation. “I’m looking forward to peace and quiet, to being able to do sports, to being able to enjoy the landscape, to being able to read books and to simply having a lot of time with my wife,” he explained.

“Just look at the sun”

The Chancellor, who has been very busy in recent weeks with various appointments such as the NATO summit or the hustle and bustle surrounding the European Championships at home, wants to use his summer break to laze around. “I’m pretty good at that. Even when I jog, for example, I’m not one of those people who listens to music and thinks about complicated things. I jog,” he reported. Scholz can relax particularly well when running, but he can do that on vacation too: “When you’re sitting there, you can just look at the sun.”

But it is not possible to do without politics altogether. When asked about his greatest wish for the summer, the SPD man explained that he wished “that Russia would end this war against Ukraine”.

Last year we went to the South of France

Last year, Olaf Scholz also kept secret where he would spend his summer vacation. Only after the trip did his wife Britta Ernst (63) reveal the holiday secret: The couple had spent a few days in the South of France. “The vacation in Provence with great impressions is over. A beautiful region in Europe,” she wrote at the time in a collage of popular travel destinations on the Côte d’Azur.
