Trial for assault: fine with reservation for Jérôme Boateng

Jérôme Boateng was given a conditional warning by the Munich Regional Court for bodily harm and was given a fine of 200,000 euros.

The verdict in the trial of Jérôme Boateng (35) has been passed: As reported, the former FC Bayern Munich professional and 2014 football world champion was given a conditional warning on Friday (19 July) at the Munich Regional Court for intentional bodily harm and was given a fine of 200,000 euros (40 daily rates of 5,000 euros each). The footballer only has to pay the fine if he is guilty of something.

Public prosecutor demanded higher fine

The public prosecutor had previously demanded a sum of 1.2 million euros in the trial for bodily harm. The judge explained in her verdict that the accusation of being a “notorious wife beater” against the football star had not been retained in the proceedings. On the last day of the trial, Jérôme Boateng thanked the court in his closing statement “for finally taking a bigger picture. I had to defend myself and speak out publicly. At some point, that’s enough.”

He said he made a mistake and would like to apologize “most of all” to his children. A former partner had accused the footballer of being attacked by him on vacation in 2018. Boateng had denied the allegations. In recent years there have already been several legal proceedings for physical assault.
