Singer Ela Steinmetz: She talks about her secret wedding

Love surprise for Ela Steinmetz: The former ESC participant secretly married three years ago.

It has been ten years since singer Ela Steinmetz (31) and her band Elaiza competed for Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest and celebrated their musical breakthrough. The group came in 18th place in 2014 with the song “Is It Right”. While she has continued to work as a singer and songwriter since then, she has kept a low profile when it comes to private matters. For example, she has kept secret until now that she has been married for a long time.

Small wedding during the Corona pandemic

In an interview with “t-online”, the musician spoke for the first time about her wedding, which took place three years ago. “We made it very small. In fact, we got married three years ago. But that was during Corona. That forced us to keep it small.” The families were there. It was “beautiful and really something special.”

“I don’t have to make a big deal out of it. For me, that’s my inner circle and I’m very, very happy. I’m excited about the future. Maybe there’ll be another big party.” But she’s not a party animal. What’s more important to her than an extensive, large-scale celebration is “having the people I really love around me and sitting around the table with them to talk.”

She prefers to keep further details to herself. “Yes, it is a conscious decision to keep all the people in my family out of public life – simply for protection reasons. My mom is the strongest woman in the world and sometimes goes to concerts in secret.” Her parents wanted nothing to do with public life. “Of course you also get a certain amount of responsibility, I am aware of that, and that is why I want to keep the people I love out of it.”

New life in Switzerland

What is known, however, is that she has just taken a big step for love: she moved from Berlin to Switzerland at the beginning of July. “Thank you Berlin, for an unforgettable, very formative and wonderful 16 years,” she said. She also announced that she is moving from the German capital to the Basel area. “The last few weeks have definitely been tough, but now everything is on the way. I’m really looking forward to this new phase of my life.”

She is looking forward to “having even more space for creativity,” she added in an interview with “t-online.” “Then I’ll have my own studio.” The musician, who is also active as a solo singer under the name ela., is continuing to work on new music in Switzerland. And soon there will be a reunion in Germany: her tour “Es ist immer irgendein menschen wach” (There’s always someone awake) starts in Hamburg on September 6th and will take her to eleven cities.
