We have already seen similar approaches in another direction – getting money in exchange for sacrificing someone you don’t know – but in this case the viewer is placed in a delicate position.
What is Midas’ Favorites, a Netflix miniseries, about?
The Netflix series tells the story of a businessman who receives a warning from a group called “Midas’ Favorites.” in which they ask you to do what they tell you, or else civilians will start dying at random.
Victor Genovesthe heir to a large communications company (Malvar Group), receives a threatening letter from a group calling itself “Midas’ Favorites” in which He is required to sell shares in the company worth 50 million euros and pay them to the group, Otherwise, a random person would die at the time indicated on the card.
The group has no intention of harming Genovés, and they even offer their support and protection on some occasions when the businessman finds himself cornered. The protagonist goes to the police, but deaths are inevitable and the messengers are always one step ahead. The police are not their only ally in this battle, as a journalist tries to help them unmask the group.
In this history also has presence Maria Jose, an old friend of Victor Genovés, who is also a businesswoman (owner of DOPA platform) has returned to Spain to begin the implementation of her company in the country and who intends to help him.
This is the story of a dystopian Spain in which the elites try to control everything without caring what it takes to achieve their goals and where the businessman is faced with two paths: Be honest and lose everything or become more and more like his antagonists whom he apparently detests so much.
