Britney Spears backs down on criticism of Halsey’s “Lucky”

Halsey’s new song “Lucky” is a tribute to Britney Spears. She was outraged on X, but then deleted her post.

In her brand new song “Lucky”, which was released yesterday, July 26, the US singer Halsey (29) makes clear references to the hit of the same name by her great idol Britney Spears (42) from 2000. Among other things, she uses the lines of the chorus in a modified form, in the video she reflects on her relationship with the pop star of her childhood in emotional images and draws parallels between her two career paths.

“Lucky” tribute with Britney Spears’ blessing

The singer had obtained permission to use this text sample in advance and stressed in a statement that she would never have used the famous lyrics without her idol’s blessing. Just a few hours after the release of her “Lucky” version yesterday Friday, Halsey, along with many of her fans, must have been surprised by a shrill post by Britney Spears on the X platform.

It read: “For obvious reasons, I am very upset about the Halsey video. I feel harassed, hurt and bullied. I didn’t know that an artist like her, and someone I look up to and admire, would expose me in such an ignorant way by portraying me as a superficial pop star with no heart or compassion.” What exactly this criticism was referring to remained unclear and was not further explained.

Britney Spears: “That wasn’t me on my phone!!!”

According to the report, Britney Spears deleted this bitter post just a few minutes later and left the public a short and curious explanation in another message: “Fake News!!! That wasn’t me on my phone!!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it!!!”
