Céline Dion in Paris: How the stars celebrate their grandiose comeback

After a long absence from the stage, Céline Dion celebrated her comeback at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. The internet is going crazy.

On the evening of July 26, the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris began with a spectacular opening ceremony lasting several hours. In addition to a contribution from US superstar Lady Gaga (38), the most impressive stage comeback of recent years caused great excitement: After more than four years, the seriously ill Canadian singer Céline Dion (56) returned to the limelight with a powerful vocal performance. In pouring rain, she performed Édith Piaf’s (1915-1963) “L’Hymne à l’amour” in front of a huge audience on the Eiffel Tower, visibly moved.

After the performance, the artist, who has been suffering from the so-called stiff person syndrome for several years, returned with moving words. She wrote: “I am honored to have performed at the opening ceremony of Paris 2024 tonight and am full of joy to be back in one of my favorite cities!”

With her characteristic modesty, she added: “Most of all, I am delighted to celebrate these incredible athletes with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance. You have all been so focused on your dream and whether you take home a medal or not, I hope that your presence here means that it has come true for you!” All participating athletes should be proud of themselves and her heart goes out to them.

The numerous reactions from international stars, who celebrated her performance – each in their own personal way – on social media were no less enthusiastic. US singer Cyndie Lauper (71), who is a friend of Dion’s, commented on her post with the words “Oh my God, dear lady, you really did it! You see what hard work and faith can do! I send you love. You are an inspiration.”

“Keep it up, my queen! You can do it!”

Shortly afterwards, the American presenter and actress Tyra Banks (50) joined in the swelling chorus of cheers and commented: “Every time I see you, the word ‘royal’ comes to mind. Keep it up, my queen! You can do it!”

Céline Dion’s best friend Kim Kardashian (43) made a similar statement about her stage comeback. In an Instagram story, she presented a video clip of the performance and commented on it with “my queen @celinedion”.

Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan (66) was no less euphoric about the show in Paris. She wrote: “You had us in your hands. Thank you for an amazing and encouraging performance at the @parisolympics”
