Good news for fans of the thriller series “Dexter”: Lead actor Michael C. Hall is coming back. There will be a sequel series called “Dexter: Resurrection”. This was announced by the streaming service Paramount+ together with the US provider Showtime. Hall will play the lead role in the series, which is set in the present day.
“We are thrilled to have the talented Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series of all time,” said Showtime CEO Chris McCarthy. According to industry magazine Variety, “Dexter: Resurrection” is set to launch in summer 2025.
The project for the sequel is new. So far, all that has been known from the “Dexter” universe is that the prequel “Dexter: Original Sin” is due to be released soon. In the new ten-part thriller series, Patrick Gibson (“Shadow and Bone”) plays the lead role of Dexter Morgan. Golden Globe winner Christian Slater (“Mr. Robot”) plays Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father and homicide detective. Molly Brown (“Senior Year”) plays Dexter’s younger sister Debra Morgan. Patrick Dempsey, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu and Reno Wilson will also appear in the prequel.
“Dexter: Original Sin” is set in Miami in 1991 – 15 years before the series “Dexter”, with which the broadcaster Showtime landed a worldwide hit in the 2000s. At that time, Michael C. Hall played the main character Dexter Morgan. A first sequel followed in 2021: “Dexter: New Blood”.
TV manager McCarthy describes the big plan behind the two series in the statement: “While ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ will appeal to millions of long-time fans, ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ will introduce a whole new generation of viewers to this cult series by starting from scratch, which will surely satisfy existing viewers as well.”
