John Mulaney and Jimmy Kimmel: Cancellation of Oscar moderation 2025

The Oscars are the top event in Hollywood every year. But now the question is who will host them.

Jimmy Kimmel (56) will probably not return as Oscar presenter in 2025. Comedian John Mulaney (41) is also said to have declined to appear at the important film awards ceremony. This was reported by several US media outlets.

Who will host the Oscars next year?

Kimmel has already presented the Oscars four times – most recently this year. At the beginning of the summer, the host of the show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is said to have decided not to host again. John Mulaney, who hosted the Academy’s 14th Governors Awards in January, was asked to take over, but also declined. He has a full schedule, it is said.

It is still unclear who will host the 97th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Kimmel hosted the event in 2017 and 2018 before it went without a host from 2019 to 2021. Regina Hall (53), Wanda Sykes (60) and Amy Schumer (43) were presenters at the 2022 ceremony. Kimmel returned in 2023. His appearance in 2024 achieved the show’s highest ratings in four years with 19.5 million viewers.

He told the magazine about the preparations for last year’s ceremony: “The big challenge is always to keep the show going. So it’s about picking your spots and showing up when you’re needed and staying out of the picture when you’re not.”
