After attack at Taylor Swift dance class: Singer says she is “completely shocked”

Taylor Swift is “completely shocked” after the fatal knife attack in Southport in which two children died.

After the British royal family, pop star Taylor Swift (34) also said she was “completely shocked” on Tuesday afternoon about the knife attack in Southport. On Monday morning, a 17-year-old allegedly stabbed children who were taking part in a Taylor Swift workshop in a dance studio. Two children were killed and nine others were injured. Six of them are in a critical condition. Two adults who stood in front of the children to protect them were also seriously injured.

“They were just little kids at a dance class”

Taylor Swift, who made her last appearance in Germany on Sunday as part of her “Eras Tour”, said: “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is still overwhelming me and I am just completely shocked… The loss of life and innocence and the horrific trauma inflicted on everyone present, the families and the first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class.” She is “completely at a loss as to how I will ever convey my condolences to these families.”

The British royals and the Prime Minister had already spoken out. Prince William (42) and his wife Princess Kate (42) expressed their condolences to the affected families in their statement, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter) and in their Instagram story. “As parents, we cannot even begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of the people killed or injured in Southport today are going through. We send our love, thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by this horrific and heinous attack.” King Charles III (75) and Queen Camilla (77) were also “deeply shocked” by the “absolutely cruel” knife attack. They also expressed their “deepest condolences” via their social media accounts.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer (61) described the act as “horrific and deeply shocking”. “My thoughts are with all those affected.”

Police arrest 17-year-old

The workshop, held at a dance studio in the British coastal town of Southport, was aimed at children in grades two to six. Its theme was “Taylor Swift” and was to include dance and yoga. Police arrested a 17-year-old from Banks in Lancashire, born in Cardiff, Wales, on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
