Kevin Costner: Film star honored with lifetime achievement award

Kevin Costner has had to deal with some setbacks recently. Now he has been awarded an Italian film prize.

In recent months, US actor and director Kevin Costner (69, “Bodyguard”) has not had much to laugh about. First, his wife Christine Baumgartner (50) filed for divorce in May 2023 after almost twenty years of marriage. After that, he had to fight a lengthy court battle with his ex and then his pet project “Horizon” flopped at the US box office. But now he has been honored for his life’s work at a film festival.

Colonna D’Oro for his life’s work

Yesterday, July 31st, Costner was finally able to celebrate some positive news at the Magna Graecia Film Festival in Catanzaro, Italy. At an evening event, he was awarded the Colonna D’Oro (“Golden Column”) for his life’s work. The first part of “Horizon” was also shown at the festival, and the Hollywood star took part in a discussion about the film.

“Horizon – An American Saga” flopped in cinemas

In June 2024, his film project “Horizon: An American Saga” was a flop when it was released in US cinemas. In view of the failure, the second part of the western epic, which was planned to consist of four episodes, was initially taken off the cinema calendar entirely. Part two is now set to premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival on September 7th. However, the sequel to the saga is not competing. Part one will also be shown on the same day.
