Fake Lashes Trend 2024: Tips on artificial eyelashes

Not every woman is blessed with thick, long eyelashes, so even the most expensive mascara can only provide limited volume. However, if you want more fullness around your eyes, you can use a simple beauty trick: fake lashes.

Although the hype around fake lashes has only become really big again in recent years, they have been around since 1911: Anna Taylor from Canada had her first glue-on strip lashes applied that year. In the 90s, it was TV stars and supermodels who made artificial eyelashes popular. Since then, the techniques for artificial eyelash extensions have been continuously developed and have set new trends. But no matter which option you choose, one thing is certain: fake lashes are more popular than ever among women with thin or few eyelashes (whether prominent or not).

What is the difference between modern fake lashes?

There is now a large selection of fake lashes that can be glued on, which can vary in size and length, density and fullness. In addition, there are not only artificial eyelashes, but also ones made of real hair – which are accordingly more expensive. But first things first:

Strip lashes

So-called strip lashes are the forerunners of all fake lashes: The artificial lashes are glued along your natural lash line and thus provide significantly more fullness. Most models last up to twelve hours – and then end up in the trash, as they usually cannot be used a second time. If you opt for waterproof they can be used several times in a row. How often always depends on proper cleaning and storage.

Eyelash tufts

In this variant, the fake lashes consist of several eyelashes in a bunch. They are applied using tweezers and some eyelash glue and provide more volume and density. The can be individually cut to the length and are particularly popular because they can be carefully cleaned, cared for and stored and then reshaped and reused after use. However, you will need a little practice to apply the fake lashes properly.

Individual eyelashes

This is , which are available in different lengths. This gives you the opportunity to thicken your eyelashes individually – or just on the outer edge. Another advantage is that you can keep your natural eye look (if you want to) without it looking artificial. The only downside: Applying the individual eyelashes is time-consuming, especially the first time.

Fake lashes are trendy

That’s why magnetic eyelashes are trending

In addition to fake lashes, magnetic eyelashes are also conquering the beauty market. As the name suggests, the artificial eyelashes are not applied with glue, instead there are two different variants:

  1. They are attached above and below your own lash line and held together using extremely thin magnets. Applying them requires a bit of skill, but becomes easier with practice. The lack of glue means your eyes are protected.
  2. Or you can use a in combination with artificial eyelashes: All you have to do is draw an eyeliner and let it dry briefly so that the fake lashes stick to it. Here too, reusability is one of the big advantages.

How to apply false eyelashes correctly

If you have never applied fake lashes before, the first time you do it can go wrong – literally. To ensure that the artificial eyelashes sit straight, you will find helpful step-by-step instructions below:

Step 1:
Regardless of whether you want to use artificial, real or magnetic lashes, you should place them over your natural lashes before using them for the first time. This will help you determine the correct length to which you need to cut your extensions (for a natural look). Use small scissors for this. Ideally, however, the hairs do not need to be trimmed at all.

Step 2:
Use the special eyelash glue for fake lashes by applying it thinly (or a little thicker towards the outside) along the lash band. If you want to use individual lashes or eyelash clusters, the glue should only be applied in specific areas.

Step 3:
Take the fake lashes in your hand and press them very carefully – and as close as possible to your lash line – from the outside (i.e. the corners of your eyes) to the inside. As long as the glue is not dry, you can move the lashes slightly with tweezers. Then close your eyes and let the glue dry for a few minutes.

Step 4:
Finally, you can shape the false eyelashes together with your real ones by applying a little mascara. If you are happy with the result (even without touching up your makeup), you don’t need to use mascara anymore.

How to remove fake lashes

If the glue is water-soluble, the artificial eyelashes can be easily removed with a damp cotton pad. Place this on your eyes for a few seconds until the fake lashes begin to come off – and you can carefully pull them off from the inside out. If the glue is waterproof, you will need to use an eye make-up remover. Magnetic eyelashes, on the other hand, are easiest to remove by rubbing them between your fingers and slowly removing them from the lash lines.
