Austrian Chancellor on Taylor Swift cancellation: “Tragedy prevented”

After the cancellation of Taylor Swift’s Vienna concerts due to the threat of terrorism, Austria’s Chancellor says: “A tragedy could be prevented.”

After the surprising and shocking cancellation of the three Vienna concerts by US pop star Taylor Swift (34), which were planned for today, Thursday (8.8.) and 9 and 10 August in the Ernst Happel Stadium, the following news came out that night:

“The cancellation of the Taylor Swift concerts by the organizers is a bitter disappointment for all fans in Austria. The situation surrounding the apparently planned terrorist attack in Vienna was very serious. Thanks to the intensive cooperation of our police and the newly established DSN with foreign services, the threat was identified early on, combated and a tragedy prevented. Many thanks to the emergency services who are currently investigating at full speed,” he wrote.

a few hours before the cancellation, it was announced that two terror suspects had been arrested in Ternitz, Lower Austria, and in Vienna. According to media reports, further suspects are being sought. The police, however, did not want to confirm this. The Interior Ministry, however, confirmed that investigations are being conducted against further suspects. “Estimates were that around 170,000 fans were expected on the Eras tour in Austria,” the report also states.

Taylor Swift concert cancelled by concert promoter

The organizer, Barracuda Music, had announced that the concerts could not take place due to an apparently planned terrorist attack:

Due to confirmation by government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.” Swift’s management also shared the statement in his Instagram story.

The concerts in Vienna will apparently not be rescheduled for the time being. “All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 working days.” This is only a small consolation for the fans, who have expressed their shock and disappointment in the various posts with great understanding, but also with many tear-jerking emojis.

Taylor Swift herself has not yet commented on the matter (Thursday morning CET).
