Due to the acute threat of terrorism, all three of Taylor Swift’s Vienna concerts have been cancelled. The news has caused a stir online.
The organizers of the Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna canceled all three planned concerts on the evening before the first date. The reason was an apparently planned terrorist attack in the Ernst Happel Stadium. They had “no other choice,” they said at Barracuda Music.
Taylor Swift: Reactions to concert cancellation
The shocking news is causing a stir online. Not just among disappointed fans who had waited a long time to attend the concert. “Attacking a Taylor Swift concert means targeting women and girls. Again. The link between terror and male violence must be made,” writes “Daily Telegraph” journalist Suzanne Moore on X. Moore is not the only one to make the connection to misogyny. “You can’t tell me that femicide and misogyny are not epidemics. Three little girls were killed at a dance class. Concerts were cancelled because of terrorist threats. I am absolutely disgusted by the media’s lack of responsibility for the radicalisation of young men,” writes one user.
She is referring to the recent knife attack in Southport, England, in which a young man killed three children and injured several people. “It is no coincidence that three girls were murdered at a Taylor Swift event and nine days later her concert is attacked. If you believe that, you are incredibly naive about the rise in misogynistic hate crimes and the men radicalized online who commit them,” commented one user.

“These attacks on Taylor Swift events are primarily planned to specifically target and harm women. We need to talk about how both suspects were boys under the age of 20 and how the younger generation of boys are violent towards women. What we will not do is blame Taylor or Islam,” writes one X user.
Misogyny
Swift’s concerts are known for being a safe space for girls and women. Fans recently reported a consistently peaceful atmosphere. At the singer’s concerts, the mostly female fans can usually show themselves exactly as they are and want to be. The most important thing: tolerance.
“It makes me sick to see people intentionally trying to destroy spaces where people, especially women, feel safe, happy and free to be themselves because they harbor a deeply misogynistic hatred for Taylor Swift,” wrote one user on X. Other fans, on the other hand, argue that it is now easy to understand why Swift mostly refrains from making political statements. “THAT is the reason Taylor Swift has not made any political statements. Over 150 international shows where millions of people’s lives are at stake,” commented one user.
