MTV presenter Nev Schulman can count himself lucky to be alive. He broke his neck in a bicycle accident with a truck.
Nev Schulman (39) is grateful to be alive. The host of the MTV show “Catfish” announced on Saturday (August 10) that he broke his neck in a bicycle accident with a truck last week. “It’s true what they say – life can change in a millisecond,” Schulman wrote on Instagram.
“I’m lucky I’m still alive”
There, the presenter shared a series of terrifying photos, including an x-ray of his broken neck, a photo of a stitched surgical wound and a video of his broken bike helmet. Another video shows Schulman slowly standing up with assistance and a neck brace, and being hugged by his children.
Schulman says he was on his way to pick up his son from school on his bike when the accident with a truck happened. He was unconscious afterward. “I’m lucky to be here, to be alive, to be standing and hugging my family, to be hoping for a full recovery,” Schulman writes. “It’s hard to feel sorry for myself when I hear from doctors how many people with similar injuries will never walk again.”
In the post, Nev Schulman reflects on how quickly life can change. The day before the accident, he went on a fishing trip with his family. It was “magical” and “a day full of love and wonder.” The next day, he learned what “before the accident” really means.
Nev Schulman became famous through “Catfish”
Nev Schulman became famous in 2010 through the documentary “Catfish,” which is about how he falls in love with a young woman via social media and goes on a search for her to find out if she is really the woman she claims to be. MTV adapted the documentary in 2012 as a reality series in which Nev Schulman goes on a search for “catfishes” as a presenter.
Schulman has been engaged to writer Laura Perlongo since 2016; the two share three children.
