“Mausi” was his fourth wife, but the first with an animal name: in 1991, building contractor Richard “Mörtel” Lugner married Austrian Christina Haidinger and gave her the nickname. The marriage ended in divorce after 16 years – what remained was Lugner’s preference for giving his partners nicknames from the animal kingdom. This was followed by “Hasi” and “Käfer”, “Bambi”, “Katzi” and “Kolibri”. Lugner made “Spatzi” his fifth wife in 2014, and the marriage only lasted two years. In June, Lugner got married for the sixth time, marrying his partner Simone “Bienchen” Reiländer in Vienna. He had already become engaged to Reiländer, who is almost 50 years younger than him, in 2021, but the couple separated shortly afterwards. It was not until the beginning of the year that they got back together and then tied the knot. Now, according to Austrian media reports, Richard Lugner is dead. He was only released at the weekend after a short hospital stay, and the family has now confirmed the death of the 91-year-old.
