People: Jimmy Kimmel: Oscars were just too much last year

It was announced a few weeks ago that the entertainer had turned down the opportunity to host the next Oscars – now Jimmy Kimmel explains his reasons for doing so.

US presenter Jimmy Kimmel (56) wants to take a break from presenting the Oscars because the preparation is taking up too much of his time. “Last year it was just too much,” said the entertainer, who has hosted the glamorous film gala for the past two years, in the podcast “Politickin”.

“When it comes to something like the Oscars, I’m all in. I think about it morning and night,” he said. His “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” show suddenly seemed like a “disruptive factor.” “You end up putting everything off until after the Oscars,” and then he has to catch up on everything later. “I just decided that I don’t want to deal with it this year.”

Kimmel has hosted the Oscars four times: Before 2023 and 2024, he hosted the evening gala in 2017 and 2018. Last month it was announced that Kimmel and US actor and comedian John Mulaney had turned down hosting the next Oscars. It is not yet known who will host the 97th Oscar gala in March 2025 in Los Angeles.
