The age limit has now been lifted on “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. Almost half of the applicants were over 30 years old – the oldest candidate is 92. The start date is unusually early this time.
The casting show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (“DSDS”) is returning unusually early this time. The new episodes will begin on 18 September (8.15 p.m.) every Wednesday and Saturday on RTL, as the Cologne-based private broadcaster announced.
Fans have actually been used to “DSDS” starting in January for a long time. However, there have been exceptions. The second season in 2003 also started in September. The very first and third rounds in 2002 and 2005 began in November.
Dieter Bohlen, Pietro Lombardi, Beatrice Egli and Loredana in the jury
The first episode is available on the streaming portal RTL+ a week earlier. The next episodes will then be available in advance on RTL+ at the same time as the linear broadcast on RTL. A total of 15 new episodes will be broadcast, including a big live finale in Cologne. The jury consists of Dieter Bohlen, Pietro Lombardi, Beatrice Egli and Loredana.
What’s new: With the upcoming 21st season, the age limit has been dropped: everyone aged 16 and over can take part. The oldest candidate is 92 years old. According to RTL, there were more than 10,000 applicants for the season – and almost half were over 30 years old.
For the first time, an amusement park will serve as the backdrop for the casting – the Europa-Park in Rust near Freiburg. This time, the overseas recall will take place on the Greek Mediterranean island of Crete.
