Death of “Friends” star Matthew Perry: Several people arrested

Following Matthew Perry’s death, several people have been arrested in Los Angeles. They are alleged to have supplied the “Friends” star with drugs.

Several people have been arrested in the USA in connection with the untimely death of former “Friends” star Matthew Perry (1969-2023). At least one doctor is among them. In addition, “computers, telephones and other electronic devices” were also confiscated, as law enforcement sources have revealed. The investigation is intended to find out who supplied Perry with the drug ketamine, the use of which ultimately led to the actor losing consciousness and drowning in the hot tub at his Los Angeles home.

Where did the ketamine that caused Matthew Perry’s death come from?

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is conducting the criminal investigation together with two federal agencies, including the US Drug Enforcement Administration. According to TMZ, Perry also received the drug, which is also approved as a medication in the US, legally as part of an infusion therapy for anxiety and depression. However, his last therapy session took place a week and a half before his death, which suggests that he obtained the ketamine himself, which ultimately indirectly caused his death.

Now at least one doctor and several dealers who are said to have helped procure and deliver ketamine to Perry have been arrested, according to what law enforcement officials told TMZ. Text messages were also found in which the arrested people spoke about Perry’s desire to procure the drug and mentioned the price that the “Friends” actor would pay for the drug.

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic with hallucinogenic effects that is used in the treatment of depression, among other things. Traces of the opioid buprenorphine were also found in Perry’s body. It is mainly used to treat severe chronic pain and to help people wean themselves off other opioids. The star was also diagnosed with coronary heart disease.

Matthew Perry has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction throughout his life. He describes this in his book “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing”. He is best known for his role in the cult sitcom “Friends”. Alongside Jennifer Aniston (55), Courteney Cox (60), Matt LeBlanc (57), David Schwimmer (57) and Lisa Kudrow (61), he was part of the main cast of the series.
