Just under a month before the 76th Emmy Awards, the presenting duo has been confirmed: The two comedians Eugene (77) and Dan (41) Levy will host the award show on September 15th at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Fans of the “American Pie” film series can look forward to the evening just as much as fans of award-winning comedy. The hilarious father-son duo have already won the coveted TV award themselves – and in doing so made history.
2020 Emmys “won in the quarantine tent”
One thing is already certain: The 76th Emmys promise a very special TV evening. Canadian-born Eugene Levy and Dan Levy are the very first father-son presenters at the Emmys. They are also the first duo since Colin Jost (42) and Michael Che (41) in 2018 and only the second duo to present this century. The two not only know what an award like this feels like. In 2020, they even went down in history. Back then, they were the first father-son team to win multiple Emmys in the same year for their comedy series “Schitt’s Creek”. A small downside: In 2020, the Emmy Awards took place under very special circumstances due to the corona pandemic, which the two still laugh about today: “For two Canadians who literally won their Emmys in the quarantine tent, the idea of hosting in a real theater this year was incentive enough,” the Levys said in a statement.
Cult father from “American Pie”
Their joint comedy series “Schitt’s Creek” really cleaned up at the 2020 Emmys. Father Eugene received two Emmys four years ago as best comedy actor and producer of the series. His son Dan even surpassed him by winning four Emmys for best comedy supporting actor, screenplay, direction and production. But none of this comes close to the success that Eugen Levy achieved with his best-known project: his consistent portrayal of the quirky and funny family man Noah Levenstein in the “American Pie” film series. Between 1999 and 2012, he helped build the global “American Pie” cult in a total of eight films. “We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy geniuses to the Emmy stage as hosts,” said TV Academy Chairman Cris Abrego. TV fans around the world can certainly look forward to a highly entertaining evening.
