Their paths have crossed for over 20 years. Grammy winner Ashanti and rapper Nelly were together for a long time, split up and became a couple again. Now they have become parents.
US singer Ashanti (“Happy”, “Foolish”) and rapper Nelly have become parents of a boy. She is so proud of her body that it gave her a baby, Ashanti wrote on Wednesday (local time) alongside a photo and a video of herself – in underwear – on Instagram. This is what she looks like four weeks after giving birth, she commented on her post. The “proud and happy parents” are completely in love with their offspring, the couple’s spokesperson team told “People” magazine. Their little boy, Kareem Kenkaide Hayes, was born on July 18. The couple announced the pregnancy in April.
It is Ashanti’s first child. Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes, is the father of two adult children. He also adopted two children from his sister, who died of leukemia in 2005. Ashanti and Nelly had been together for a long time since 2003, but then separated. They found each other again last year.
The R&B singer and songwriter became famous overnight 20 years ago with her debut album “Ashanti” (2002). She has also appeared in several films and TV productions, including “Coach Carter” (2005), “Resident Evil: Extinction” (2007) and “Army Wives” (2013). Nelly, born in Austin (Texas) in 1974, was successful with albums such as “Country Grammar” and “Nellyville” and won several Grammys.
