After more than 100 days in the intensive care unit, actor Heinz Hoenig is now being prepared for a temporary discharge. This was explained by his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig.
In January, actor Heinz Hoenig seemed to be doing brilliantly – he even endured the rigors of the jungle camp. But then his condition deteriorated drastically. At the end of April, he was admitted to a Berlin clinic. This was followed by over 100 days in intensive care, a coma and several operations. At times, his condition was considered critical, and his wife Annika Kärsten-Hoenig was at his side during this time.
Now, after the many health and financial problems (Hoenig does not have health insurance), there is a ray of hope. As the “” reports, citing Hoenig’s wife, the actor is apparently being prepared for his release. On her private Instagram channel, she recently shared a picture with her husband – outside the clinic.
Heinz Hoenig should first be made fit for upcoming surgery
According to the report, Heinz Hoenig is currently being fed artificially. He has lost a lot of weight since the beginning of the year. The “Bild” newspaper writes that he is finding it easier to breathe on his own and that work has begun on building up muscle mass. Things are clearly progressing.
The daily newspaper quotes his wife as saying: “This week, the first ‘exhaustion attempt’ is to be started: they want to stop the night-time ventilation. Depending on how things go, further steps will be planned. Among other things, the aim is to remove the tracheostomy tube before going home.”
For Hoenig, however, his health crisis is not over with the planned trip home. He still has an important aorta operation to perform, but he is currently too weak for it. Returning to his own home with his wife and children should help him gather strength for the difficult procedure.
Half a million euros in costs – so far
There is no end in sight to the financial problems. As Annika Kärsten-Hoenig explained to Bild, full medical and nursing care is required to care for her husband. She recently submitted applications to the social insurance fund for this, she said. If this fails, the discharge cannot be carried out as planned. She estimates the total costs to date to be around half a million euros.
Kärsten-Hoenig is planning to take care of her husband herself. As a trained nurse, she can take on basic care, she said.
One has so far raised 180,000 euros – in addition, several German celebrities have promised financial support for Hoenig, including Til Schweiger (read more here).
