Their father is standing on the stage of the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago and talks about how he and his wife Gwen had problems having children. For years they hoped again and again – and were deeply depressed when it didn’t work. When Walz talks about it, he himself fights back tears.
The couple eventually underwent fertility treatments – with success. “Hope, Gus and Gwen, you are my whole world,” says Walz to his wife and children sitting in the audience. “I love you,” replies daughter Hope. “That’s my father,” calls out son Gus, overwhelmed. Many in the audience are also struggling with their emotions.
