“I feel compelled to take this step into the public eye,” Cora Schumacher, 47, begins her emotional post on Instagram. Ever since her ex-husband Ralf made his relationship with the Frenchman Étienne public in July, there has been a row. In an interview with “Spiegel” she recently explained that she knew nothing about the love between the two and, just like “the rest of Germany,” only found out about it through the media.

The 49-year-old then published a private WhatsApp message from Cora to Étienne dated October 6, 2023, in which she congratulated the two on their wedding. He wrote: “With all this back and forth, I would like to clarify that Cora congratulated us in September (beginning of October) 2023 because she thought we had gotten married. (…) I think it’s a shame for Etienne and me that she is spreading so many lies. We both just want to be left in peace.”

An accusation that Cora apparently does not want to accept. She accuses her ex-husband of wanting to publicly “discredit her and portray her as a liar”. She writes that by sending the message to Étienne she was “just trying to at least find out the truth from HIM”. Ralf’s reaction “triggered a wave of hate and slander on the internet”. She is accused of things that are completely untrue. “I am being called a ‘gold digger’ and a ‘liar’, it is being claimed that I entered into an arranged marriage, that I should keep my mouth shut, that it is none of my business anymore.” All of these comments have hurt her deeply – “especially when you consider that I myself have been lied to for many years.”

“I married for love!” she assures us, and she has not signed a non-disclosure agreement in a marriage contract. “It doesn’t say anything like that. Otherwise I would never have gotten married!” She also “never lied!” “The hate campaign that is being waged against me is very personal and weighs heavily on me. I just want to live my life in peace and heal!” She ends her entry with the words: “Before you judge, remember: **** – words have power and can cause great damage.”

Cora and Ralf Schumacher were married from October 2001 to February. They have a son together, David. The 22-year-old young racing driver recently appeared unperturbed by his parents’ arguments. On the sidelines of a race at the Nürburgring last weekend, when asked by RTL on the subject, he said: “I have nothing to do with it, it doesn’t stick in my head. And as soon as the visor is closed or the door is shut, it’s just about driving and nothing else.”
