It is actually a given that the bride’s family will come to the wedding. However, there are many question marks in Norway ahead of Märtha Louise’s wedding. But: The king will be there.
The wedding of Princess Märtha Louise (52) and her fiancé Durek Verrett (49), which has made headlines, will take place in front of the eyes of the Norwegian royal family. King Harald V and Queen Sonja (both 87) will attend the wedding celebration on Saturday in Geiranger, western Norway, as will Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit (both 51). This was announced by the Norwegian court in Oslo.
The youngest generation of Norwegian royals will also be represented by Haakon and Mette-Marit’s children Princess Ingrid Alexandra (20) and Prince Sverre Magnus (18). Harald’s sister Princess Astrid (92) will also be there. Parts of the family also wanted to attend an opening ceremony on Thursday in nearby Ålesund, the royal family wrote. The family is looking forward to being among the guests at the wedding.
Trouble over exclusive rights for wedding
Märtha Louise is the eldest child of King Harald and Sonja. Although she is older than her brother Haakon, she is fourth in the line of succession behind him, Ingrid Alexandra and Sverre Magnus. Her relationship with the shaman Durek Verrett has been accompanied by controversy from the beginning. There were also problems during the wedding preparations, including over a wedding gin, Verrett’s mother and most recently over the British celebrity magazine “Hello!” securing exclusive rights to the wedding ceremony and reception.
The royal family has expressed reservations about being photographed exclusively by “Hello!” According to Norwegian media reports, the TV rights are held by a camera team led by a Netflix director.
Mette-Marit’s son Marius not present
In addition, the royal family is currently grappling with allegations of violence against Marius Borg Høiby, another of Mette-Marit’s sons from a previous relationship. The 27-year-old has admitted to being violent towards his girlfriend. He will not attend the wedding, the court confirmed to Norwegian broadcaster NRK. This was apparently decided some time ago – and thus before the violent incident this month.
