Model Stefanie Giesinger has made public that she had an abortion. She writes openly about her difficult journey and her feelings at the time.
Model Stefanie Giesinger has written openly about the abortion she had months ago. “I got pregnant about a year ago and incredibly difficult months followed,” the 28-year-old wrote on Instagram. “I didn’t want to become a mother, at least not at that point.”
Giesinger shared with her 5.2 million followers how challenging it was to get information about abortions on her own and how she struggled with feelings of shame, fear and grief during that time. She had to wait six weeks until the fertilized egg was removed by surgery, she wrote.
“The sudden drop in hormones, the guilty conscience and the excessive demands plunged me into a dark hole from which it was difficult to see any glimmer of hope.” She is grateful for the people who supported her in the time after the procedure, “and for the privilege of being able to make decisions about my own body.” Giesinger won the TV casting show “Germany’s Next Top Model” with Heidi Klum in 2014. In the comments to her post, many women thanked her for her courage in making this experience public.
