Lady Gaga doesn’t often talk about her relationship with Michael Polansky. Now she reveals how they met.
Forget about “bad romance”: Lady Gaga (38) is on cloud nine with her partner Michael Polansky (46). In April, the two got engaged after five years together. The Grammy winner and the tech entrepreneur are now speaking openly for the first time about how they first met and the beginnings of their relationship.
Getting to know each other thanks to Lady Gaga’s mother
According to the report, the two met in 2019 through Lady Gaga’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta. She met Polansky in her role as president of Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and was immediately won over: “My mother met him and said to me ‘I think I just met your husband’ and I said ‘I’m not ready to meet my husband yet!'” recalls Lady Gaga. “I never imagined that my mother would find the perfect person for me?”
Gaga and Polansky met in person for the first time in December 2019 at the 40th birthday of their mutual friend, Sean Parker (former president of Facebook). They talked for three hours straight, said Gaga: “We had the most wonderful conversation.”
Polansky also remembers his first meeting with his current partner: “I didn’t know much about her and wasn’t sure what to expect. I was immediately impressed by her warmth and openness.”
“And then came Covid”
After the birthday party, the two spoke on the phone for weeks before going on their first date and falling in love. “And then Covid came,” said Lady Gaga. A time that was apparently of great importance for the next chapters of their relationship: Polansky was actually living in San Francisco at the time, but during the pandemic the two moved into Gaga’s house in Malibu together. “It was really very special,” said the singer. “I had been so focused on my career since my teenage years. And the gift of that time was that I could focus completely on my relationship. I met this totally supportive, loving person who wanted to get to know me – outside of Lady Gaga.”
It was a “strange kind of normality” that is “essential for the development of any relationship,” Polansky adds. “Going for walks, drinking coffee, hanging out with the dogs, reading books together…”
Lady Gaga raves about her Michael
Lady Gaga is “very grateful” that she had her Michael by her side at a time “when so many people were getting sick and dying and so many people were alone” and that she was not alone. “I’ve never met anyone like Michael. He is so smart and kind. His life and my life are very different,” explains the “Joker: Folie à Deux” actress. “He’s a very private guy and he’s not with me for any other reason than that we’re compatible.”
She wants her fans to know that she is “just so happy” and healthy, said the singer, who will be releasing her seventh studio album in the coming months. When Gaga released her last album, “Chromatica” (2020), the opposite was the case. “That album was an absolutely horrific time for me in terms of my mental health. I was in a really dark place. Before that, I had struggled with it for many years,” said the 38-year-old.
Through her relationship with Michael Polansky, everything began to change. “Because I had a real friend who saw how unhappy I was and why. And he wasn’t afraid to really hold my hand. And get to know me. On a very deep level.”
Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky first appeared in public at the Super Bowl in February 2020 and made their relationship public. Rumors of an engagement first surfaced in April, when the singer was spotted with a suspicious ring on her finger.
