More than 250 international film productions will be shown at the Toronto Film Festival until September 15. At the end, the audience will decide on the TIFF winning film.
The 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) opened with the premiere of David Gordon Green’s “Nutcrackers”. In the comedy-drama, Ben Stiller plays a workaholic from Chicago who, after a tragedy, suddenly has to look after a quartet of mischievous orphans and a farm in Ohio. After the opening on Thursday evening (local time), more than 250 international film productions will be shown until September 15, including several music documentaries about Elton John, Bruce Springsteen and Andrea Bocelli.
Contributions from Germany are also eagerly awaited
Also included in the selection are Ron Howard’s thriller “Eden,” in which Daniel Brühl plays a supporting role, Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl” with Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis, and Angelina Jolie’s directorial work “Without Blood” with Salma Hayek. Jolie will also be honored with a TIFF Tribute Award at a gala next Sunday, alongside stars such as Amy Adams, Sandra Oh, Cate Blanchett and director David Cronenberg.
The more than 20 contributions from Germany are also eagerly awaited, with world premieres such as Ali Samadi Ahadi’s “Seven Days” as well as the co-productions “The Assessment” with Elizabeth Olsen and “Bonjour Tristesse” with Chloë Sevigny.
On September 15, the TIFF winning film, which is traditionally chosen by the audience in Toronto, will be announced before the festival closes with Rebel Wilson’s directorial debut “The Deb”.
