Richard Lugner: Who will inherit the deceased property developer’s fortune

In mid-August, Austrian property developer Richard Lugner died at the age of 94. Before his death, he had clarified who would inherit his fortune.

Richard Lugner loved (young) women, the Vienna Opera Ball and the real estate business. While his relationships and his appearances at the Opera Ball brought him fame, Lugner earned his fortune mainly through real estate deals. This included his own shopping center, “Lugner City” with 110 shops and 56,000 rentable square meters.

But Lugner was not above any job during his career. He made a lot of money by renovating run-down old apartments in Vienna or by building gas stations. In 1975, Saudi Arabia commissioned him to build a mosque in Vienna. Lugner said yes – and cashed in. But during his life, the property developer’s bank balance was not always rosy.

In February, the Austrian “Kurier” reported debts of around 40 million euros. “The foundation and Lugner Immo currently have these debts with Erste Bank,” Lugner told the newspaper. “I am constantly paying my loan installments, and everything around me is not encumbered and is also worth something,” he said. According to “Forbes,” Lugner still had a fortune of around 80 million before his death.

Lugner himself explained before his death who would inherit the money. “I have four children and a wife who are my heirs,” he told “oe24”. His wife Simone “Bienchen” Reiländer, whom Lugner married in the spring of this year, is to take over the management of “Lugner City”. The women Lugner married all had to sign marriage contracts. Lugner is said to have been very generous. “Let’s put it this way – I’m well provided for. But I was well provided for before too, it’s just that now I’m not alone,” Simone Reiländer told “oe24”.

In total, “Mortar” Lugner was married six times in his life. His four children come from relationships with a total of three women.
