Javier Andrade, the first Argentine journalist for MTV Latin America, has died

The journalist was living in Los Angeles and, through his Instagram account, he used to share with his followers photos and videos of the concerts he attended.

Javier Andradethe first journalist who conquered the entire continent with his space Rock Week on MTV Latin Americadied this Friday at the age of 58 and left the world of music and entertainment journalism in mourning.

According to reports, Andrade was facing a painful illness. So far, his family and friends have not given further information on the matter.

The journalist was living in Los Angeles and, through his Instagram account, he used to share with his followers photos and videos of the concerts he attended. His last post, in fact, dates back four weeks ago, with a recording of the Outlaw Music Festival that, on the stage of the Hollywood Bowl, brought together Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp.

The information circulated in the early hours of Friday on social media. “How sad! Javier Andrade, rock journalist for Página 12 and MTV, where he hosted his news segment, has died,” wrote Sergio Marchi on his X account. “I woke up in Rawson with the sad news of the death of Javier Andrade, a rock journalist who worked for 13/20, Página 12 and flew to MTV. Great friend, we have even shared a note to Chuck Berry, beyond hundreds of concerts. We have walked his dog Beto together in the snow of New York and he showed me how to pick up dog poop with a bag in 1995,” added the writer on Instagram.

The musician Emmanuel Horvilleurwho began his career with Illya Kuryaki Almost in sync with the channel, she responded to the post lamenting the loss: “What bad news. We also had a kind of friendship. And these days I was watching a lot of MTV archive material and I had him very much in mind. A hug to his friends and family.” Meanwhile, drummer Andrea Álvarez, a long-time collaborator of Soda Stereo, also left her memory: “Affectionate, respectful, funny… great guy. Very, very sad.”

Another of the colleagues who said goodbye to him with heartfelt words was Roque Casciero: “Before I dedicated myself to journalism, there were writers I followed with admiration. Among them was Javier Andrade, who I later discovered to be a generous, lucid, funny and… too much of a Boca fan. Luckily I was able to tell him all these things. I will miss him,” said the journalist from Página 12. “Javier Andrade, the original host of Noticias MTV, the voice of a generation that looked for references on television, has left us.
