Sir Elton John at the Toronto Film Festival: He jokes about his limited vision

Elton John’s vision is limited. Nevertheless, he is in a joking mood, as he showed at his first performance after his illness.

Elton John (77) recently announced that he currently has limited vision due to an eye infection. But that didn’t stop the megastar from attending the world premiere of the new documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” at the Toronto International Film Festival, accompanied by his husband David Furnish (61).

The British singer was driven down the red carpet in a purple golf cart, as can be seen in a few impressions of the premiere that Elton John shared in his Instagram stories. The visibly cheerful star also spoke about his infection on site and joked: “I’m having the best time of my life – except for this damn eye. I wish I could see you.”

Elton John said: “Over the summer I had to deal with a serious eye infection which unfortunately has left me with limited vision in one eye.” He is on the road to recovery, but it is a very slow healing process and it will take some time before he can see again in the affected eye.

Elton John: Great father instead of world star

“Never Too Late” is a documentary by RJ Cutler (62) and Furnish, which will be available on the streaming service Disney+ from December 13th. The film tells the story of Elton John’s life and career. It also shows moments from the private life of the global star with his husband and their children Zachary and Elijah. According to the report, during the screening of the documentary there were several enthusiastic applause from festival visitors – and a standing ovation when Elton John entered the stage. The singer emphasized how important family is to him.

“What I love about this film is that I have it with me and my two sons. I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved,” John said emotionally. “I hope I can continue to make music, but I want to be at home and appreciate it. Having a number one album is really nice for five minutes, but this is for a lifetime.” He doesn’t want it to say on his tombstone that he sold a lot of records: “I want it to say that he [Elton John, Anm. d. Red.] was a great father and a great husband.”
