The story of Gabe Newell, the Microsoft employee who built his own empire

Gabe Newell was born in 1962 in Colorado, United States. In his teens he moved to California and after finishing his studies he returned to the East Coast to study at Harvard. He stayed there for a short time, from 1980 to 1983. He decided to leave school accepting an offer to work at Microsoft, sharing that status on his CV with Bill Gates, the CEO.

Newell stated that He learned more in his first 3 months at Microsoft than in his 3 years at Harvard. There he was involved in the creation of the first three versions of the Windows operating system. The success was so resounding that he became a millionaire.

Following his fanaticism for games, together with another coworker he left Microsoft with the aim of creating Valve, a well-known video game company with products such as Counter Strike and Half Life.

As video game successes continued, he decided to go a step further and create a platform that would host the largest number of titles possible, regardless of the company that produced them, and thus Steam emerged, which today represents the 75% of the global PC video game distribution market, being the absolute leader.
