The International Bruckner Festival was officially opened in Linz on Sunday. This year, the classical music festival, which runs until October 11, is dedicated to the 200th birthday of the composer after whom it is named, and its program includes the entire symphonic and sacred works of Anton Bruckner. However, the celebratory mood is subdued in view of the Bruckner House affair.

The event was opened by National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP). The list of speakers at the ceremony was involuntarily reduced. The director was absent – Dietmar Kerschbaum was dismissed this year, among other things, due to compliance allegations – and the mayor. Klaus Luger (SPÖ) had to resign at the end of August because he had – something he had always previously denied – leaked the hearing questions to Kerschbaum before his appointment.
