Martín Lousteau, against Javier Milei’s veto: “We cannot have retirees below the poverty line”

The national senator for the Radical Civic Union (UCR) Martin Lousteau questioned the presidential veto of Javier Milei to the pension reform and stressed that “You can’t have more than half” of older adults “below the poverty line.”

He also criticized the position of some radical legislators who will now change their vote when the Congress insist on the project. The senator considered that “They will have to give explanations” since the initiative “was born from the hand of the UCR” and “the issue of retirees is very important.”

In this regard, he pointed out: “There is always pressure in voting, but “You have to see if one sticks to what one believes.”

Martín Lousteau, against Javier Milei: “He is governing by DNU”

On the other hand, he said that the President “is governing for “DNU” and that he received “great powers” from one of the two laws he sent to Congress.

Regarding the veto, Lousteau said: “To make a law you have to send a project to Deputies and then to the Senate“To repeal it, you need only one of the two chambers to support you. Some would say that is unconstitutional.”

“The increase for retirees is a matter of defining priorities,” Lousteau emphasized.

Days ago, on his X account, Lousteau had stated that “the increase for retirees is a matter of defining priorities.”

Warplanes, trips to support friendly politicians abroad, lowering taxes for the richest, or ensuring that senior citizens receive what they deserve?” he said.

He also said that retirees “have been losing purchasing power since 2017” and that the current administration “changes conditions so much” that it does not know “how to pay next month’s bonus.”

“The law would have given him more purchasing power, but he overrode it with a veto,” he said.
