Princess Kate has returned with a video. Fans notice what is missing: Kate’s engagement ring. Instead, she is wearing another piece of jewelry.
It is the first detailed message from Princess Kate in several months and the one that royal fans have been waiting for: The princess has completed her chemotherapy and indicates in the video that she no longer has cancer, but that her road to complete recovery is still long. In the pictures that show her with her husband William and their three children, Kate is wearing a summer dress and her hair – her trademark – is long and loose. But attentive royal fans quickly noticed that Kate’s loyal companion is missing.
Princess Kate appears without Diana’s engagement ring
As in a video message to the British Olympians in mid-August, Kate is not wearing her engagement ring. The blue sapphire with diamonds is one of the most famous pieces of jewelry today, having previously adorned the ring finger of Princess Diana, Kate’s late mother-in-law, whom she never met.

Princess Kate and her important role in the royal family
Instead of the iconic ring, the 42-year-old wears her wedding ring made of Welsh gold, an eternity ring with diamonds and a new eternity ring that is also set with gemstones. The stones, alternating dark and light, are striking. An eternity ring usually consists of a ring with gemstones that wrap around the entire finger. The meaning behind it is already clear from the name: the eternity ring – translated as such – symbolizes infinite love and eternity rings are therefore often used as wedding rings or as a gift for a special event. In addition, eternity rings symbolize the cycle of life.
Kate wears a new ring
The princess’ new piece of jewelry is already causing discussions and rumors online. “The new ring again… definitely a William gift,” speculates one fan on X, formerly Twitter. “I wonder if her not wearing Diana’s ring represents a new beginning. A symbol of this next phase of her life? Or maybe she will wear Diana’s ring occasionally or on formal occasions?” speculates another.
Even without the Welsh couple explaining the meaning and origin of the eternity ring, the message of Kate’s video message is obvious: We belong together – in good times, but especially in bad times.
