For the first time, Ralf Schumacher and his partner Étienne spoke in the German media about their love and the racing driver’s coming out.
Since his much-publicized coming out almost two months ago, Ralf Schumacher (49) has been the center of media attention. After the racing driver had already come out a few weeks ago, he and his partner Étienne Bousquet-Cassagne now spoke to RTL presenter Frauke Ludowig (60). In the new “Exclusiv Weekend” interview on RTL, Schumacher also emphasized that he is “happier than ever before.”
Étienne reveals: “Coming out was his decision”
He has a lot in common with his partner Étienne. “I mean, we are very similar in character, very conservative, very calm, very pleasant. We have the same interests,” says the 49-year-old.
Meanwhile, Étienne revealed: “Coming out was his decision.” For him, the whole thing was “a surprise” and he was also “a little scared.” It was also difficult for Étienne to be in the spotlight of the German public so suddenly.
“It wasn’t easy for me because I’m not famous, I’m not a racing driver, I’m not an actor, I’m not a singer. I wasn’t ready for that,” he revealed in an interview with RTL.
Coming out mid-July
Former Formula 1 driver Schumacher famously declared his love for his partner Étienne on the evening of the European Championship final. This attracted a lot of attention and drew huge, predominantly positive reactions.
Schumacher spoke out again on Instagram just one day after coming out and thanked everyone for the great public support. “Thank you very much for the many congratulations and comments. We are very happy and thank you all,” he wrote at the time alongside a photo.
The following weekend, Étienne accompanied him to the Hungarian Grand Prix, where Schumacher was doing his job as a Sky pundit. There, the two appeared together in public as a couple for the first time.
