What followed was an allegedly bitter dispute, which, according to US media reports, revolved, among other things, around custody of the two daughters. Shortly after the musician and actress published a joint statement on social media in September 2023 announcing that they “have mutually decided to end our marriage amicably,” Turner apparently filed a lawsuit against Jonas. In it, she allegedly claimed that Jonas had withheld the children’s passports to prevent them from traveling to Turner’s native England.
The actress’s lawyers also reportedly stated that the couple’s separation was “very sudden” after an argument on August 15, 2023. Turner also allegedly claimed that she learned “through the media” that Jonas had filed for divorce. Representatives of Joe Jonas had denied all allegations. In October 2023, the former couple began mediation to reach an agreement on property and custody – apparently with success.
