In the horror film “The Substance,” Demi Moore plays a woman who takes drastic measures to look young. She herself says: “I didn’t feel like I was no longer desirable when I was 50.”
US actress Demi Moore says she does not look for confirmation in the outside world. It depends on what you believe in, the 61-year-old told the German Press Agency. “As soon as we work on our own beliefs, things change.”
Moore plays the lead role in the new science fiction horror film “The Substance”. She plays a once famous actress who is told that she is no longer desirable at her age. She then chooses a drastic measure to become a younger version of herself.
In the film, a man says to her, “It ends at 50.” She has never personally had to hear anything like that, says Moore. “But I am aware of the fact that for a long time, women’s worth has been measured by their fertility – which means that when you reach a certain age, when you go through menopause, you are no longer desirable, you are sort of relegated to a smaller group and therefore have fewer opportunities.”
As soon as your perspective shifts, your belief in what is true changes, she says. “I didn’t feel like I was no longer desirable when I was 50,” even if that was “the dominant message” at the time. But: “If we stop believing that, then it will no longer be our reality,” says Moore.
“The Substance” will be released in German cinemas on September 19th.
