The trick to hide your WiFi network from your neighbors
To hide your WiFi, you need to hide the network’s SSID. While each manufacturer has a slightly different interface, you generally need to follow these basic steps:
- Enter the router’s IP address into your web browser. This is usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. If you’re not sure what the address is, you can find it in the device’s documentation or by searching the internet for the model.
- You need to enter your username and password to access the router settings. If you have never changed these credentials, they are probably still the default ones, such as “admin” and “password”.
- Once inside the administration panel, look for the section dedicated to WiFi network settings. Depending on the manufacturer, this might be called “Wireless”, “WiFi Settings” or similar.
- In the Wi-Fi settings, you will find an option that says something like “Broadcast SSID.” Uncheck this box. Doing so will cause the network name to no longer appear in the list of available networks for nearby devices.
