Football legend Christoph Daum is honored at an impressive memorial ceremony. The football world says: “Do a good job, Christoph.”
The football world is saying goodbye to coaching legend Christoph Daum (1953 – 2024). He died in August at the age of 70 after a long battle with cancer. The memorial service will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday (September 12) in the Cologne stadium. Daum’s former clubs – Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart and 1. FC Cologne – have jointly invited people under the motto “Mach et joot, Christoph”. The celebration will last at least 90 minutes.

the memorial service for the deceased football coach will begin with a welcoming speech by Dr. Werner Wolf (68), the president of 1. FC Köln. The celebrations will be moderated by the former football player and current sports presenter Thomas Helmer (59).
Further speeches will be given by DFB President Bernd Neuendorf (63), football official Michael Meier (74), VfB Stuttgart Managing Director Alexander Wehrle (49), Cologne football world champion Pierre Littbarski (64), Federal Minister of Agriculture Cem Özdemir (58), Nicole Mattig-Fabian and Dr. Jens Kröger from the German Diabetes Aid, and RTL presenter Katja Burkard (59), who is a close friend of the Daum family. The ceremony will be accompanied by live performances by the Höhner and the Turkish Chamber Orchestra and Choir.
So many guests and spectators are expected
Around 300 prominent guests and companions of Christoph Daum are expected to attend – including his close friend Reiner Calmund (75) and DFB sports director Rudi Völler (64). Around 5,000 fans are also expected to attend as spectators, who will take their seats in the west stands. In addition to the supporting program, the Daum family will be presented with a book of condolence on the sidelines of the memorial service, which was previously on display in the shop at the Cologne stadium.
