Tension and incidents in Santa Fe: they tried to enter the Legislature after approving the pension reform

The Santa Fe Chamber of Deputies approved the bill in the midst of a chaotic session. The legislators had to abruptly end the debate due to the disturbances at the entrance of the building.

The Chamber of Deputies of Santa Fe approved this Thursday the pension reform law promoted by the provincial government. The project was approved in general and the opposition withdrew. The vote resulted in 23 positives, nine negatives and 11 abstentions. In addition, there were six absentees. While the pension reform law was being defined, incidents occurred at the entrance to the Legislature with protesters who threw stones and wanted to open the doors of the building.

Although there was a split vote, the ruling party added internal wills and asserted its majority in the chamber. Among its main points, the norm declares the emergency of the Santa Fe pension systemincreases the percentage of contributions from active workers, reduces effective earnings, establishes limits on pension benefits and modifies the widow’s pension system for those who access this benefit at an early age, since it is considered that the person is in a condition to work.

The provincial project was launched in parallel with the veto of the national retirement law that was approved yesterday in Congress, with the support of the PRO and five radicals who prevented the opposition from obtaining two thirds of the votes to insist on the initiative.
