The anti-Semitism commissioner Stefan Hensel has criticized the planned appearances of the comedian Nizar Akremi. The latter is controversial not only because of statements in a podcast episode with Luke Mockridge.
The anti-Semitism commissioner for the city of Hamburg, Stefan Hensel, has called for the cancellation of the planned appearances of the comedian Nizar Akremi in the Hanseatic city. Akremi is scheduled to appear on November 22nd in the Barclays Arena and on January 10th, 2025 in the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle in Harburg. The comedian had already attracted attention in his YouTube program “Shitstorm” with his anti-Semitic stories of Jews as merchants with hooked noses who catch gold coins. Most recently, Akremi came under criticism in connection with statements made by the comedian Luke Mockridge. In the podcast “Die Deutschen”, of which Akremi is co-editor, Paralympic athletes were mocked because of their disabilities.
In addition, Akremi spreads anti-Semitic agitation on the X platform in the form of demonization and propaganda against Jews and the State of Israel. “Open hatred against Jews and the State of Israel is simply not covered by artistic freedom. This finds its limits where hate speech against minorities is openly expressed,” said Hensel. Municipally funded venues should not provide a platform for such people. “In other cities, cancellations have already been made, and rightly so; we should do the same,” said Hensel. Nizar Akremi’s performances have already been canceled in Fulda, Berlin, Leverkusen, Kaiserslautern, Leipzig and Erfurt.
