TV boxing match: Stefan Raab suffers defeat again

It was probably one of the best-kept secrets of the TV year: Stefan Raab’s physical condition.

Several Instagram videos in which he was shown wearing a fat suit fueled the excitement about the appearance and fitness of entertainer Stefan Raab (57): After all, he has not been seen on screen since the last “Beat the Raab” show at the end of 2015. Raab’s last public appearance was in 2017 at the “Bits & Pretzels” start-up fair. On Saturday evening, September 14, at around 10:10 p.m., the time had finally come: the 13,000 visitors in the PSD Bank Dome Cologne as well as the RTL viewers were able to catch their first, long-awaited glimpse of Raab at the “Clark Final Fight”.

He walked down a long staircase in a white full-body suit and sang the song “Paar aufs Maul”. He then appeared topless for his fight against former boxing world champion Regina Halmich (47). The former “killer belly” posed proudly on a podium and showed off his new muscles. But it didn’t do him any good. Regina Halmich won on points after six rounds.

Regina Halmich predicted a well-trained opponent

As many had already speculated, the presenter has obviously trained hard and can now show off a toned upper body. “He is as fit as I have ever seen him,” said commentator Frank Buschmann (59). Nevertheless, Raab was already panting in the first round, but was able to survive the full distance. “I consider that a success,” said Buschmann. In terms of boxing, however, Halmich clearly had the edge, which was also the view of the three judges.

The 47-year-old was previously completely unaware of Raab’s fitness, as she has repeatedly emphasized in several interviews and in her Instagram stories. She, on the other hand, made no secret of her preparation: she trained almost daily for four months, regained her previous weight of 51 kilos and prepared herself for a “well-trained Stefan”, as she revealed to RTL in advance. Halmich’s expectations of Raab were high: “We want to go six rounds together and stand in the ring for six rounds, you just can’t do that without really hard training.”

She told “Gala TV” that, as far as she knows, Raab has several trainers and is in top shape. His appearance is a secret for her until the end: “I have never seen him live and I think that is actually what he wants. These are the mind games that he is already playing. He will definitely not show himself to me before we are both in the ring.”

“I will beat Stefan”

In the ARD documentary “Regina Halmich – Back to the roots” () she also speculated about Raab’s fitness level: “Perhaps Stefan has been training for years. We don’t know, it’s the big secret. I haven’t seen him either.” He will be “a tough opponent, even if he doesn’t have the boxing skills, he does it through his ambition.” But she wants to make his life “as difficult as possible.” “I will beat Stefan, point 1, I am the better boxer, it’s quantity against quality. Point 2, I have more stamina. I am a stamina animal. Point 3, there must not be any other result, that would be a catastrophe.”

The former “TV Total” host first came forward on March 29th with a short clip in which Elton (53) encouraged him to make a comeback. Raab, however, wanted to become an influencer and get nine million followers within three days. He didn’t manage that – but on April 1st Raab announced his boxing revenge. But he wore a fat suit and thus concealed his true appearance. In the days before the boxing match, Raab then came forward again with Instagram videos, continuing to show himself in the fat suit and most recently after an alleged cosmetic surgery with blonde hair and dazzling white teeth. In doing so, he fueled the guessing game – right up to the end. Fight commentator Frank “Buschi” Buschmann (59) emphasized at the start of the show that the question about Raab’s appearance was the most exciting of the evening for him.
