Boris Becker and his Lilian: First pictures of their wedding

Boris Becker and Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro celebrated their wedding in Portofino, Italy, for three days. The German “Vogue” has now published the first pictures of the ceremony.

Boris Becker is married again. At the weekend, the former tennis pro married his fiancée, risk analyst Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro, in the Italian port city of Portofino. Close friends and family members, such as Becker’s sons Noah and Elias from his marriage to Barbara Becker, came to the three-day celebration. A total of 85 people were on the guest list. The German “Vogue” has now published the first pictures of the bride and groom. Becker had sold the photo rights exclusively.

Wedding with Boris Becker: Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro’s wedding dress

Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro can be seen in her wedding dress in the photos. She is wearing a shoulder-free white robe with a corset top and buttoned back. A long train and a delicate veil complete the elegant outfit. The 34-year-old revealed to “Vogue” that the dress was designed by her best friend Andrea Ravieli. “He is a very creative person, works in the fashion industry and has been my best friend since school in Rome,” she said. Even then, she had promised Ravieli that he would design her wedding dress one day. Now the time had come. “He was inspired by René Magritte’s painting ‘The Lovers’ from 1928 – the picture in which two people kiss but their faces are covered with white cloths. This painting is the reason for the special draping on my dress. For us, it symbolizes trust, even without seeing each other,” explained Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro.

She said of Boris Becker’s outfit: “Maybe he’ll welcome me in a James Bond look, who knows?” In fact, the 56-year-old can be seen in the pictures in a white tuxedo with a matching waistcoat and black bow tie. He also wears black trousers and black patent leather shoes. James Bond actors Sean Connery and Daniel Craig have already presented a similar look.

The choice of wedding location was also worthy of a film. Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro and Boris Becker exchanged vows in the former monastery “La Cervara”. “We wanted a place that felt like our home, that was part of our life together, that we know and enjoy. One that reminds us both of ourselves. From Milan, it is easy to reach beautiful places in northern Italy. You can get to Venice in three hours by car, Lake Como in 40 minutes and Portofino in two hours. These are the places where we like to spend time together, often over the weekend. That’s why we definitely wanted one of these options for our wedding,” said Carvalho Monteiro. In the end, the choice fell on Portofino. “When we got there and entered the location, I immediately had a vision of what our wedding would look like. We looked at each other and both knew that this would be the place where we would celebrate our big day,” said Carvalho Monteiro, who organized most of the details herself – without the help of a wedding planner.

It is Boris Becker’s third marriage. He was married to his first wife Barbara from 1993 to 2001. In 2009 he married Dutch model Sharlely Kerssenberg. They separated in 2018 and officially divorced five years later. Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro and Boris Becker have been a couple since 2020. She comes from an influential family in the Central African island state of São Tomé and Príncipe, was born in Rome and later studied in London. Today she lives with Boris Becker in Milan.

In 2022, when he was sentenced to prison for delaying bankruptcy, she stood by him. “I think we went through so many things together that it made me understand what it means to have someone in your life that you want to share your life with. For me, marriage is about making a commitment to each other, caring for each other, trusting each other and sticking together. To be honest, I think we sealed our marriage a few years ago when we had to deal with certain things together. (…) You can’t just give up just because things get difficult. It’s hard work, and I understand that. I think we both understand that,” she told Vogue.
