Two days after Stefan Raab’s TV comeback, another great entertainer has spoken out: Thomas Gottschalk announces his departure.
Thomas Gottschalk (74) has announced that he would like to say goodbye with his new book “Unfiltered”. The legendary showmaster’s work will be published on October 16th. But the former “Wetten, dass..?” presenter is not completely out of the picture yet: He will be completing a reading tour through six major cities and a book signing at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
“I’m not complaining, I’m just surprised”
On September 16, Thomas Gottschalk announced: “Stefan Raab is coming back – I’m saying goodbye! With a book in which I not only think about the times we live in, but also express them.” He continued: “But I’m not complaining, I’m just surprised. As loudly as always! I would be happy if the questions I ask were answered.”
Then he refers to his reading tour, which will take him to Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Cologne between October 16 and 26. “Raab has already let himself be beaten up. It’s possible that I will also be beaten up for what I think! But I stand by it…”
He has already published “Herbstblond” and “Herbstbunt”
On October 19, Gottschalk will also hold a book signing at the Frankfurt Book Fair. His farewell book is being advertised with the words “personal, thoughtful, self-ironic.” Heyne-Verlag had already announced the work in the spring. It is the presenter’s third book after the autobiographies “Herbstblond” and “Herbstbunt.”
It says: “He is in a class of his own: Thomas Gottschalk. He is loved by audiences for his sharp and quick-witted humor – but times have changed. What used to cause laughter can now cause outrage.” The entertainer is trying to “understand the rules and pitfalls of our society: what has changed in his eyes and why?” He also spoke to generational researcher Dr. Rüdiger Maas about this. The 320-page “Unfiltered” is “a very personal inventory and at the same time a plea for more composure in dealing with one another.”
Thomas Gottschalk is one of the most famous TV stars in Germany. He started his career at Bayerischer Rundfunk and has produced numerous radio shows. He finally made his breakthrough on television with the show “Na sowas!” In 1987 he took over the ZDF evening show “Wetten, dass..?”. In November 2023, after a few breaks, he presented his 154th and last show. In his private life, he has found new happiness after his divorce from his long-time wife Thea (78), with whom he has two grown-up sons: He recently married Karina Mroß (62) in Ibiza.
