Following the arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs, the New York prosecutor’s office has now released the charges against him.
Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs (54) faces more than 20 years behind bars if he is found guilty. After the musician, producer and entrepreneur was arrested in New York on Monday evening (September 16), the public prosecutor’s office there has now published the indictment. The 54-year-old is accused of sex trafficking and organized crime, reports among others.
Did Sean Combs run a “criminal enterprise”?
“For decades, defendant Sean Combs, also known as ‘Puff Daddy,’ ‘P. Diddy’ or ‘Diddy’ […] “He abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his behavior,” the indictment states.
With the help of his employees and extensive business resources, Combs built “a criminal enterprise” “whose members and associates committed or attempted to commit, among other things, sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice.”
“He will of course plead not guilty,” Combs’ lawyer Marc Agnifilo said outside the courthouse on Tuesday morning, according to the New York Times. His client will fight the charges “with all his energy and all his strength.”
Numerous accusations and an extremely disturbing video
Combs’ arrest and indictment had been expected since federal authorities searched the music mogul’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami on March 25. Combs, also known as Diddy and Puff Daddy, was accused in November 2023 by an ex-girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, 38, of engaging in sex trafficking and abusing her.
In May, a disturbing video from 2016 circulated in which he attacked her in a hotel hallway. The musician then declared that he had “hit rock bottom” and was “not looking for excuses” for his “inexcusable” behavior. He took “full responsibility.”
After the ex-girlfriend, other people also accused the rapper of sexual assault, including gang rape, and reported sex parties at which women were drugged and abused by Combs.
