Arnold Schwarzenegger was awarded an honorary doctorate in Berlin. Green Party politician Robert Habeck gave the laudatory speech.
The former governor of California and Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger (77) has been awarded an honorary doctorate in Berlin. The “Terminator” star appeared in person at the ceremony on September 17th at the private Hertie School. The laudatory speech was given by Green Party politician and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (55).
Arnold Schwarzenegger: “Don’t listen to the naysayers!”
Schwarzenegger received his doctorate for “his commitment to environmental protection, civic engagement and his innovative politics,” explained university president Cornelia Woll. As governor of California, Schwarzenegger was particularly committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and expanding renewable energies, and has long been committed to the fight against climate change.
In his speech, laudator Habeck was impressed by how the politician Schwarzenegger had integrated “climate considerations into economic policy”. The man who was praised expressed his thanks and explained: “People need visions and goals. You can have the best plane, but if the pilot doesn’t know where it’s going, the plane will crash. Have visions!”
He also told his listeners: “Don’t listen to the naysayers!” Anyone who wants to achieve something should not listen to them.
Schwarzenegger, who was born in Austria, became “Mr. Universe” as a bodybuilder at the age of 20. This was followed by a film career in Hollywood with appearances in cult films such as “Terminator” (1984), “Predator” (1987) and “Total Recall” (1990). From 2003 to 2011 he was governor of California.
